The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) not only offers resources and supports to field professionals but also provides valuable information to parents, caregivers, and educators. I’ve discussed the importance of some of the these initiatives in prior blogs: Better Speech & Hearing Month and Parent Toolkit.
Most recently, ASHA has developed the Healthy Communication & Popular Technology Initiative with the goals of:
Providing practical advice for individuals and families to develop responsible tech habits;
Creating communication health awareness campaigns promoting balanced use of popular technology; and
Exploring the impact of popular technology usage on healthy speech, language, and hearing.
(Goals listed on ASHA’s website here)
In an ever-changing technology driven society, ASHA is committed to promoting healthy communication habits to ensure that children develop speech, language, and hearing abilities. In addition, this initiative provides tips for managing safe tech use.
