In a webinar for The Arc of Massachusetts, Paul will discuss AAC strategies and technology for adults with disabilities.
New technology has led to advancements in high-tech speech generating devices. This progress offers many benefits but also necessitates increased knowledge, collaboration, and support by all stakeholders. Many young adults may not have had access to communication technologies that have emerged since their exit from school. Furthermore, transition from school to adult setting can be challenging given the need for coordination across many entities and changes in the levels of available support. For older adults these devices were not an available resource. Paul will discuss strategies for successful adaption of AAC systems for adults with developmental disabilities. He will also cover current AAC technology, the evaluation and implementation process, and coordination in AAC treatment during transition from school to adult placement.
